CityPlace Toronto exposing the Concord Apex built fiasco Exposed Live Wires Balconies at CityPlace left unfinished with bare Live Wires! |

Actual resident experience: When wiring up the electrical at CityPlace several balconies were left with a live wire. This was apparently planned to be an outlet on the balcony but for whatever reason was not actually finished. Therefore a wire not connected to anything, not capped off, but open and LIVE was left. No one seemed shocked or expressed concern about it at CityPlace. It took me weeks of badgering them to get it capped off. We actually had to get a third party electrician to come in and do it. The simple words "I've got a live wire on my balcony" did not raise any concerns with Prompton or Concord's Customer Care department. Prompton told me it was Customer Care's problem, Concords Customer Care representative, Eunice, told me it was not their responsibility. She told me it was the Buildings problem. Hmmmm, but you built the building. They also hired the lackluster firm that manages the building, Andrejs Management. When I called this Management company they pass the blame back over to Customer Care. Hmmm, so Eunice at Customer Care says its Managements problem (who they hire) and Maria (the excuse lady) at the Management office says its Customer Care's problem and Prompton acts like a deer in the headlights with both. Really though, it was MY problem and the others who had and some who still have live wires on their balconies. After we got a third party electrician to cap off the live wire and fix some other electrical problems customer care decided to send in their own guys. This was a week later. Hmmm so they aren't responsible until we get an electrician in here who declares it a hazard stating "no one should have been allowed near it, he would have fired anyone that worked for him if they did that and it should have been dealt with immediately". As mentioned above Prompton, Customer Care, Property management all passed the buck. We actually pointed out to Prompton the strange wire on the balcony when we signed the lease - a full 3 weeks before moving in. Runaround? Oh yes, Cityplace's specialty. UPDATE: We checked and this is indeed a violation of building code. If anyone at CityPlace still has an exposed live wire on their balcony you need to get that taken care of immediately. A call should also be made to City Hall. Letting that kind of thing slide is what causes fires later on. If a live wire was left (and the bad wiring as discussed on another page) what else in the walls is a hazard? If everyone that had such problems makes one phone call or sends one email, it makes it hard for city officials to ignore. |
